The OC Fair continues in Costa Mesa with John Fogerty headlining Wednesday and Patti LaBelle with The O'Jays on Thursday. Here in Fullerton, the City Council meets Tuesday evening, the weekly Night Market returns Thursday, the Downtown Fullerton Art Walk lights up First Friday, and the Orange County Super Mini-Con brings board gaming to the Hunt Branch Library over the weekend. OC Fair 2026
The OC Fair continues through August 16 with midway rides, live concerts, livestock exhibits, and the Centennial Farm. This week's Pacific Amphitheatre headliners include John Fogerty on Wednesday, August 5, Patti LaBelle with The O'Jays on Thursday, August 6, and Rebelution with Skip Marley & Niko Rubio on Friday, August 7. National Night Out

City Council to Finalize FY 2026-27 Budget
The Fullerton City Council is expected to adopt the final FY 2026-27 budget at Tuesday's meeting after deferring the decision from the July 21 meeting. The budget, based on "Scenario C," addresses a $3.8 million deficit by unfunding nine vacant full-time positions and reducing community programming. The community is encouraged to attend Tuesday's session for the final public hearing and vote.
Back-to-School Registration Continues
It is August, and back-to-school preparations are in full swing across North Fullerton. The Fullerton School District and Fullerton Joint Union High School District both have registration windows open. Sunny Hills High School typically starts its school year in mid-August. Families in Raymond Hills, Sunny Hills, and Golden Hills should check their feeder school assignments and registration deadlines. Beechwood Elementary, Laguna Road Elementary, and Acacia Elementary are all enrolling for the 2026-2027 year.
OC Fair Traffic Advisory & Big Headliner Week
With the OC Fair in full swing through August 16, this is a marquee week with John Fogerty on Wednesday and Patti LaBelle & The O'Jays on Thursday. Expect heavier traffic on southbound routes toward Costa Mesa on fair days (Wednesday through Sunday), especially in the late afternoon. The 5, 55, and 405 freeways see the most congestion during fair season. Plan accordingly if heading south for an evening out or consider carpooling.
6. Trail & Outdoor Update
The Fullerton Loop and Hilscher Park Trail remain in excellent shape heading into mid-August. Morning temperatures are in the mid-70s with the typical coastal marine layer burning off by mid-morning. Start your hike or ride before 7:30 AM for the most comfortable conditions.
Pro-tip: With the OC Fair drawing big crowds to Costa Mesa (especially this week with John Fogerty and Patti LaBelle headlining), expect weekend trail traffic on the Fullerton Loop to be a bit lighter as folks head south. The Bastanchury and Gilbert trailhead lots still fill by 8:30 AM on Saturdays, so arrive early. Bring extra water as August sun is intense after 9 AM. The singletrack at Hilscher Park is running fast and dry in great condition.
7. Dining Spotlight
Fuoco Pizzeria Napoletana brings the traditions of Naples to downtown Fullerton. Established in 2012 by the father-and-son team Franco and Tullio Ceccarelli, this family-run gem specializes in authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas cooked in a 1,000-degree wood-burning oven imported from Italy. Each pizza bakes in about 90 seconds and arrives at your table served uncut, meant to be eaten with a knife and fork in the classic Neapolitan style. The 12-inch pies are perfectly sized for one person, with a puffy, charred cornicione and a perfectly tender center.
Beyond pizza, the menu includes panini, calzones, fresh salads, and classic Italian antipasti. The warm, modern interior and sidewalk patio seating make it a favorite for a casual dinner before the Art Walk or a relaxed evening out. Just a few blocks from the Fullerton Transportation Center and steps from the downtown plaza, it is an easy five-minute drive from the hills of North Fullerton. A perfect pre-Art Walk stop on Friday evening.

This week I am looking forward to the Downtown Fullerton Art Walk on Friday. Grab a pizza at Fuoco beforehand and make an evening of it.
