The OC Fair has wrapped for another year, the back-to-school season is in full swing, and our Fullerton summer events continue with the weekly Farmers Market on Wednesday, Night Market Thursday, and Friday Night Live at the Sports Complex to close out the week. The Fullerton City Council meets Tuesday evening for what could be a pivotal budget vote. Back-to-School: First Day Approaches
Late August means the countdown to the first day of school is reaching its final days across North Fullerton. Sunny Hills High School and schools within the Fullerton Joint Union High School District typically begin their academic year in the third or fourth week of August. The Fullerton School District's elementary and middle schools are completing summer registration and preparing to welcome students back. OC Fair 2026 Wraps Up: See You Next Year
The 2026 Orange County Fair closed its gates last night, August 16, wrapping up a 23-day run under the theme "Your Adventure Awaits." If you missed the final weekend with The Head and the Heart, Dwight Yoakam, and AJR, the Pacific Amphitheatre's summer concert series continues with additional shows through September. The fairgrounds will now transition into the OC Fall Festival and Halloween events season. Mark your calendars: the 2027 OC Fair dates are typically announced in early spring.

The Fullerton Loop and Hilscher Park Trail are in excellent shape as we head into the second half of August. Morning temperatures are still in the mid-70s with the coastal marine layer providing cooler starts.
Pro-tip: With the OC Fair now over, weekend trail traffic on the Fullerton Loop may pick back up as locals return to their regular routines. The Bastanchury and Gilbert trailhead lots fill by 8:00 AM on Saturdays, so arrive early to secure parking. As the sun climbs higher, bring extra water and start your ride or hike by 7:30 AM for the most comfortable conditions. The singletrack at Hilscher Park is running fast and dry. Late August is also the season for spotting hawks riding thermals over the hills in the late afternoon.
