The OC Fair enters its final week in Costa Mesa with AJR on Wednesday, Dwight Yoakam on Thursday, and The Head and the Heart on Friday. Here in Fullerton, the weekly Certified Farmers Market returns Wednesday, the Night Market lights up Downtown Plaza on Thursday, Friday Night Live brings free concerts to the Sports Complex, and the Fullerton Train Museum opens its doors Saturday morning. Plus Newport Beach is hosting its inaugural Art Week through Saturday. Here is everything you need to know this week.

OC Fair 2026: Final Week!
The OC Fair wraps up its 23-day run this Sunday, August 16. This is the week to get your final corn dog, ride the midway, and catch the closing concerts. The Pacific Amphitheatre lineup this week includes AJR on Wednesday, August 12; Dwight Yoakam with Los Hermanos Mendoza on Thursday, August 13; and The Head and the Heart on Friday, August 14. The Hangar hosts nightly free tribute band performances. Theme this year is "Your Adventure Awaits" with red, white, and blue displays. General admission tickets must be purchased online. Newport Beach Inaugural Art Week
The city's first-ever Art Week celebrates creativity, culture, and the arts through Saturday. Highlights include the 59th Annual Newport Beach Art Exhibition, Art in the Park Fine Arts and Artisan Fair at the Newport Beach Civic Center, community painting events at Marina Park, and new public sculptures in Civic Center Park. Noche de Leyendas
A quadrangular soccer event at the Great Park featuring legendary Mexican football teams. Leyendas Cruz Azul takes on Leyendas del America, and Leyendas de Chivas faces Zacatepec USA in an afternoon of f\u00fatbol nostalgia. Back-to-School Season Underway
Mid-August means the countdown to the first day of school is on across North Fullerton. Sunny Hills High School and the Fullerton Joint Union High School District typically begin their academic year in mid-to-late August. The Fullerton School District's elementary and middle schools are wrapping up summer registration. Families in Raymond Hills, Golden Hills, and Sunny Hills should check their feeder school assignments and registration deadlines. Beechwood Elementary, Laguna Road Elementary, and Acacia Elementary are all enrolling for the 2026-2027 school year. Our School Feeder Patterns guide is a great resource for families new to the area.
OC Fair Final Weekend: Plan Ahead
This is the last chance to experience the 2026 OC Fair, which closes Sunday, August 16. Expect heavier traffic on southbound routes toward Costa Mesa Friday through Sunday, especially around the 5, 55, and 405 interchanges. Final-weekend concerts at the Pacific Amphitheatre include The Head and the Heart on Friday and additional acts Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are selling online only and daily attendance is capped. If you plan to go Saturday or Sunday, purchase tickets in advance and arrive early. The fair is closed Monday and Tuesday.
City Budget Update: Next Council Meeting August 18
The August 4 Fullerton City Council meeting was canceled by prior council vote, so the next regular meeting falls on Tuesday, August 18 at 5:30 PM. The FY 2026-27 budget adoption, which was deferred from the July 21 meeting, may be on the agenda. The proposed "Scenario C" budget addresses a $3.8 million deficit. Community members are encouraged to attend the August 18 meeting for the final public hearing and vote. Check the city's Legistar calendar for the published agenda later this week.
6. Trail & Outdoor Update
The Fullerton Loop and Hilscher Park Trail remain in great shape heading into mid-August. Morning temperatures are in the mid-70s with the typical coastal marine layer burning off by mid-morning. Start your hike or ride before 7:30 AM for the most comfortable conditions.
Pro-tip: With the OC Fair in its final week and drawing big crowds to Costa Mesa, expect weekend trail traffic on the Fullerton Loop to be a bit lighter as folks head south for one last fair visit. The Bastanchury and Gilbert trailhead lots still fill by 8:30 AM on Saturdays, so arrive early. Bring extra water as August sun is intense after 9 AM. The singletrack at Hilscher Park is running fast and dry in excellent condition.

Rutabegorz is a Bohemian bistro established in 1970 by four Cal State Fullerton students. Known for fresh, health-conscious fare, the legendary Garlic Chicken Salad is the most-ordered item in the restaurant's history. This beloved restaurant occupies a charming historic cottage that was once the office and residence of Dr. Olsen, a local physician who practiced there for over 40 years. What started as a small coffee and dessert shop serving handmade cheesecake, carrot cake, and bagels has blossomed into a full-service, health-conscious bistro that has fed generations of Fullerton Hills families.
The atmosphere is pure bohemian charm: artistic decor, warm wood accents, a lush garden patio draped in market lights, and the easy hum of happy regulars sharing a meal. The menu celebrates fresh, wholesome ingredients with a creative twist. Massive salads with house-made dressings are the cornerstone, with fan favorites including the Cockie Leeky Soup, Southwest Quinoa Bowl, Thai Salad, Veggie Enchiladas, and Karen's Kale Salad. With extensive vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, Rutabegorz has earned its reputation as a welcoming space for every kind of diner. It is a true Fullerton original and one of the longest-running independent restaurants in the city.

"There is something bittersweet about the final week of the OC Fair. I always love seeing the hills quiet down a bit as folks make that last trip to Costa Mesa for corn dogs and concerts. This week I am especially looking forward to Friday Night Live at the Sports Complex. There is nothing quite like an outdoor summer concert under the Fullerton sky with your neighbors. Bring a blanket and some chairs and make an evening of it. And if you have not visited the Fullerton Train Museum in a while (or ever), Saturday's open house is a wonderful opportunity. It is one of those local gems that everyone drives past but few have explored.
